DOCUMENTED RESEARCH

Portrait Research

Vincent Van Gogh– Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. In just over a decade, he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life. They include landscapes, still life’s, portraits and self-portraits, and are characterized by bold colors and dramatic, impulsive and expressive brushwork that contributed to the foundations of modern art. He was not commercially successful, and his suicide at 37 came after years of mental illness, depression, and poverty.

Rembrandt is also known as a painter of light and shade and as an artist who favored an uncompromising realism that would lead some critics to claim that he preferred ugliness to beauty.

Florian Nicolle- Florian Nicolle aka NEO is a French Graphic Designer and Illustrator with an impressive collection of collage-style work combining grunge patterns and elements with clean lines, subtle colors and great balance.

FOLDER ORGANIZATION

WRITE UP

I personally struggled with completing this project. With everything going on from COVID-19, my best friend’s dad passing away and my girlfriend breaking up with me. I really had no motivation, but I knew I needed to do something to show my skills to the best of my ability with what I had on me. Photoshop has been my go to for many projects and it has not let me down.

I also really didn’t do drawn images cause I had no idea of where I wanted to go with this piece. I was first looking at religious artwork for inspiration but religion right now is not my go to. So, when I saw Florian Nicolle’s work, I decided to get rid of my original idea of just my face and go with my outlined body, with my scars outlined as well along with labels I have gathered over my lifetime. I felt that simple was better than to much detail. I would always struggle with that, having too much detail. But, I am glad with how this piece turned out.

I have learned alot from this class, and I hope to continue to use these skills and lessons in my own art in the future. And hoping that this project allows me to finish on a good note for this strange semester.
